In the recent past, we have seen technological advances that have changed people's lifestyles. For me, the most significant are: the television, the telephone, the personal computer, the internet, and the smartphone.
Until the beginning of last year, I thought we were in the midst of the Information Age (also known as the Third Industrial Revolution, the Computer Age, the Digital Age, the Silicon Age, the New Media Age, the Internet Age, or the Age of the Digital Revolution), whose exact beginning is unknown. Some say it was in the mid-20th century, while others say it was in 1990, and still others say in 2000. The truth is, I thought it would last a few more years. A couple of years ago, I started hearing about the Metaverse and thought it would rapidly change our world, that we would even enter the Metaverse Age. But that hasn't been the case. Instead, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged powerfully and is producing accelerated changes that may lead to this era being known in the future as the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
You might think it's not for your business or that you don't use it, but without realizing it, you've already been using it. For example, when you search for something on Google Search, AI analyzes what you type and offers suggestions for popular searches or corrects misspelled words. And it's not like it just appeared last year; the term was formally coined in 1956, but the underlying ideas date back much further. What did change recently is that in 2017, a group of eight brilliant minds at Google drafted a 15-page document outlining a project called "Transformer," which revolutionized how computers interpret human language. Transformer laid the foundation for ChatGPT and other AI tools.
