Iberdrola suffers a cyber attack and exposes the data of some 850,000 customers

Iberdrola has suffered a cyberattack that has left the data of around 850,000 customers in Spain exposed. The hack took place on 5 May and was detected on 7 May.

Iberdrola has indicated that it has reported this fact "immediately" to the  Data Protection Agency and that it has filed the relevant complaint with the State Security Forces and Corps. At the same time, it has sent a  communication to the affected customers informing them of the incident.

The energy company has stated that, in the face of the unprecedented wave of hacks that have affected important companies and public and private entities in recent times, it is "continuously working to combat these cyberattacks, always acting with total transparency and collaborating with regulatory and supervisory bodies."

In this regard, he pointed out that cybersecurity is "a priority" for the company, "as demonstrated by the continuous and growing allocation of human and financial resources."

"In recent years, investment has been strengthened with funding that has increased significantly," the same sources added, stressing that they have more than 400 professionals worldwide dedicated to cybersecurity and that they have made "a large investment in advanced processes and systems, with the aim of protecting our infrastructure, information systems and our clients' data."
